"How Lucky I Am To Have Something That Makes Saying Goodbye So Hard"

It's here! The last day of this blog and fundraising event. Our You Caring site will be coming down tomorrow and we made it $3,770! This is a bittersweet day for us as we have enjoyed sharing our life events with you, have felt so much love from you, and have gotten a little bit closer to making one of our dreams a reality.

We want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has shared our posts to help get our crazy idea out there. THANK YOU to everyone who shared your dollars with us to help us make our dream of owning a home come true. We aren't there yet... but we promise you, we will be there sooner because of you! Of course, we are still holding true to our word that the highest donation will be receiving a freshly brewed gift, and Aaron will be in touch with you :) Whether you donated or not, you're ALWAYS welcome to our house for a beer, a baked good, or just good-old-fashioned banter (with an old fashioned if you like, I'm pretty good at making those).

So, here we are. In just over one year we have been through early deliveries, NICU's, emergency rooms, totaled cars, excessed jobs, urgent cares, dead teeth, 3 moves, and the unexpected loss of my mom and Aaron's grandpa. We have learned to handle these things (as we know more will be coming- such as the email from my school district yesterday that I was overpaid for summer school and owe them money... seriously? Let me tell you how much work I do OUTSIDE of work and then we'll see who owes who) with a sense of humor, a few tears, and the support of our friends and family when we find out-of-the-ordinary ways to cope. Thank you for helping us make it through.

Sending out all of our love and gratitude,

Aaron, Diana, LiliElla, Emmilyn, and Katherine

Three days left to meet our YouCaring goal. We haven't moved forward in a few days, but we still have hope. I think... yup, we still have hope.

THREE DAYS.

Today was the first day back to school and I. am. beat. My brain feels fried and I feel I have nothing crafty or creative to post. I apologize folks. All I can think about is lesson planning and having copies ready for the kids Thursday! #teacherlife

What I do have is a funny story about a note Lili wrote to me while driving in the car yesterday. It went:

Dear Mom, (obviously she used a comma in this letter because she's my kid- and obviously she knows how to write letters because she is 3)

Please do not get hurt. I will be very mad. I do not want to clean up your blood. I love you super duper.

Love,
Lili Joan Young.

I guess we know she won't be in the medical field if she doesn't want to clean up blood ;)

Lili just told me she wanted to share this video with you all. She is doing Irish dance to funk music- because that's how we roll.

Happy Monday. Oxymoron, I know.

Back to school tomorrow. Today was a day of denial- spent at the beach, in the yard, cleaning, and now... revising syllabi and lesson planning before bed. Does it make me a bad parent that I intentionally played the kids hard and with no naps today so I could have an hour to prepare for school? Meh- maybe a crap parent but a rock star teacher?

Our YouCaring site has had no love these last two days, but that's okay- because there are 3 more to go and I will not surrender! Yet. Well, actually that's not true. I'm surrendering now. I wasn't even going to post tonight but I felt obligated.

Really- this is how I'm feeling.

And with that, I'm out. Please say an extra prayer for all the teachers returning to work tomorrow... and if you don't pray, well, drop off a bottle of some good booze at your favorite teacher's house.

5 days to go to reach our $150,000 goal on You Caring. Can it be done? Well, I'm not a quitter... except at Words With Friends in which "Za" is a playable word. Come. on.

We have 2 days left of summer "vacation" and I've started the usual tossing and turning all night whilst lesson planning and mentally taking note of all the things that need to get done before summer is over... and then suddenly it's 4am! As usual, I don't have a lot of time to blog today, but I did do something to make up for last night's obnoxious video..

I gave them harmonicas!!! This is much more peaceful and who knows, we might have a future family harmonica band now! You're welcome future neighbors ;)

I tried to get Aaron, but he was very busy recipe planning and was not entertained by my morning shenanigans. So, here's a picture of recipe planning and graham cracker eating.

Thank you all for your support and sharing this crazy blog! Happy Saturday :)

Good news guys! We sold enough at our Yard Sale so that we can afford groceries for the next week- wooohoo :) Super thanks to Tony for stopping by and taking so much of our stuff! I also have a lot of clothes left to donate to my students, so I feel good about it all around.

Bad news, 7 was not -our lucky number. On the 7th day of the countdown we held steady on our You Caring site; I am NOT complaining. Every day I tell Lili how lucky we are to have so many people who care about us and want to help our family. We love you all!

So, I'm exhausted. I'll leave you with a video of our crazy children playing their favorite game: scream and run, run and scream. Please disregard the messy basement- we are in a constant state of hot mess around here. Whenever we finally get into that dream house, we'll make sure we have a big back yard to exhaust the children. Maybe we will even chip in for the neighbors to get the same kind of sound-proofed windows people who live near airports have.

Stay tuned tomorrow for when I try to get Aaron on video.

Lucky #7

Hola Amigos!

Whew. Today was one of those days that goes by so fast you don't even realize you forgot to put on ___________. Feel free to fill in the blank with whatever it is you forget when you're busy. For me it was mascara AND deodorant- sorry public.

We have 7 days left and thanks to the generosity of a complete stranger we are up to $3,770!!! We are going to have a flash yard sale tomorrow to sell off some of the baby stuff we don't need any more and hopefully be able to put a little more toward our house fund. I'm struggling a little with this as I normally give all of my baby stuff to expecting students- but I just saw this on Facebook Image result for poor people understand so they give the mostand then I decided I shouldn't feel guilty about selling things... especially since the leftovers will still go to my students anyway. So if you're in the area and in need of baby toys or 18 mo girl clothes, come on over!

As usual, I don't have much time to post. Aaron needed a break from the chaos today and is out fishing (hopefully catching some so we have something to eat for the next two weeks before payday- ooooooooh teaching, you kill me) and I did my best to throw something together for your entertainment.

If you have ever watched SNL and seen the skits in which the characters try to guess what the other is saying and talk at the same time, you'll understand why I think this is hysterical. LiliElla has been doing this since she started using more than 4 words per sentence- and this wasn't planned. Obviously. Nothing is ever planned when children are around.

What I didn't get the chance to say in the video is THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS. And also- HI ELLEN!!! We had to end a bit early as you can see Emmi was trying to rip out Lili's hair for giving her a hug ;) Kids <3

Woohoo! Lili paid me $1.00 to help her learn ballet via YouTube this morning so we are up to $3,720!!! Good thing my kid has learned to stash change all throughout her room; bad thing Katherine has learned to find it and try to eat it.

Today has been busy- Aaron had a voluntary training at his new school (yeah, that whole "voluntary" thing is just another reason summers off from teaching actually truly kind of suck) and the kids also found a stash of candy in Lili's room, so it's been off the wall around here. I've gotta head out to bartend shortly, so this is also going to be a short post. But don't worry, I still emailed Ellen ;)

As promised, here is a word from Katherine who is apparently learning how to talk from Chewbacca.

The most amazing thing about this adventure is that it has shown me much about compassion and friendship. It would be impossible to recount all the incredible people I have met in the last 32 years (yah, thanks for making me another year older August), but this blog has brought so many of those people back into my life and I think that might be one of the biggest blessings of all! I sincerely hope we continue to stay in touch and that you do plan a visit when we finally own a home-- thanks to you!

On day 10 of the final countdown our donations went up to $3,719! This is all thanks to one of those incredible people whom I met years ago in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is an incredible mom with two of the cutest little boys in the world, and someone I wouldn't have met if I hadn't taken a risk at flying solo to visit a best friend during college. It was totally worth the shin splints I got running through that Willy-Wonkaesque tunnel in Detroit's airport. Word to the wise- don't take 3 connecting flights your first time flying solo unless you have also packed a few flight flasks to reduce anxiety.

I just sent off letter #975,349 or so to Ellen, and we are again asking if you could please share with your friends, family, or whoever you think might have a dollar to spare, to help us make our dreams come true. Make sure you visit our YOUCARING page if you would like to make a donation! Well, the house part... world peace might take a bit longer.

As promised, here's an entertaining video of Emmi reading about kittens. Don't mind the ridiculous amounts of drool- she's getting about 50 teeth at once it seems. I think she cusses more than a sailor... we'll find out when this babbling becomes more recognizable ;) But according to Lili, she says "Dammit" all the time.

And who doesn't love a video of a baby laughing? So, here, you can have that, too!

Stay tuned for tomorrow's countdown post- there's no telling what Katherine will do ;)

It's the final countdown!!!

The final countdown is on. We're counting down to a few things

1) The school year will be starting Aug 29th! This is both fantastic and terrible at the same time.

2) We'll be done asking for your dollars Aug 31! See above statement

3) Someday we won't have kids in diapers!!! This is only fantastic.

So, starting today, we have 10 days left to see if we can get any closer to our goal. Please visit our YOUCARING site if you have a dollar to share! I will do my best to post something fun every day to encourage new visitors to our blog or just to entertain old visitors :) Thank you SO MUCH for all of your support and generosity throughout this hectic last year. Thanks to all of you, we made it through multiple hospital visits, totaled vans, and three crazy moves. I am going to repost our very first blog here as a reminder of the hell and highwater we lived through and even more so to remind us of how much love we have received from so many people.

At this very moment (well, maybe not the moment you're reading it as I hope things have changed), we have been blessed with $3,619 to put towards a house. We have struggled this summer to add on anything and in reality, will need to put a little back into this fund as a month without salary has been tough, Our hope, our plan, our dream is to find a home by August 31 of 2017 so that we can put all of your dollars where they belong and have you over for one hell of a shindig ;)

Before I go back in time, here are a couple of gems from today. Lili was explaining why she wants us to buy a house... but then a bee interrupted, so we had to try again. If you're offended by poop talk, don't watch.

Well, one year ago I decided to try something different... and amazing things happened!

"Do you think I can find 150,000 friends to donate a dollar so we can buy a house?"

My husband's response didn't really matter (he doubts my ability- or maybe it's my popularity) because I had already decided. As I watched my twin daughters trying to eat each other's faces and heard my 2 year old yodeling from her room, I decided that this sounded way too fun not to try. It's also the only way we'll ever be able to live anywhere beside in our van by the river.

What prompted this ridiculous idea? Apparently, we're getting kicked out of the house we have been renting for 2.5 years. Yes, yes, we knew it was for sale when we moved in, but we were expecting our first baby and we had to move out of the shoebox cottage we were living in and this was the best place we could find. Our landlords have been awesome to us, but the new guy, we'll call him "Walter", is apparently not so awesome and wants us out ASAP (as in yesterday). I'd like him to come hold some babies while we pack...

"Why can't you buy your own damn house?" you may be asking... I don't want this to be a pity post, as a dear friend of mine ahem, Thomas suggested, I just want this to be a really fun thing to try to do, but I suppose you should all know that deep down, it is a pity post because

A) We are teachers in public schools and we spend too much of our time and money on our "kids"
B) We have twin 6 month old girls who spent 2 weeks in the NICU
C) We have a 2 year old... she eats a lot
D) Add B&C together with the fact that we had unpaid maternity leave and unpaid summers and then let's add in
E) A family of 5 requires a minivan and not that rusty old Element we were counting on driving for 29 years
F) Three kids under 2 require an ungodly amount of diapers and twins eat TOO MUCH formula
G) Student loans, hospital bills, emergency surgeries, daycare, and then those life things like groceries and gas and a freaking beer once in a while.
H) We also have incredibly bad luck that lasts for months at a time and depletes any kind of savings we might have had - car breaks down, dryer breaks, stroller gets run over, kid gets strep twice, mom needs unexpected surgery, van gets totaled, etc. etc.
I) will just finish it on this lovely vowel from the alphabet and make it simple: I need a dollar... dollar...a dollar is what I need... because we need somewhere to live!

- Guys, my husband just walked by and nose snorted at me. "You really are starting that, huh?" *Nose snort.

While I was lying in bed at 2 am barely breathing so as not to wake a twin or toddler, I had ideas galore rolling through my mind. What can I do to make people want to give me a dollar? Well, first of all, it's a dollar. 4 quarters. 10 dimes, you can find that in your couch crack, and most people don't really want anything in return for a buck... but- you might- so, what can we do in return for your dollar? Because if your dollar really does buy a home, then these things are on the table (that will be in our awesome dining room- I've never had a dining room!)

1- Homebrew. Anyone who donates is welcome to come have a homebrew! I don't really want anyone to give more than a dollar because, well, that's the fun in this, BUT, if you do and you give the most, Aaron will brew you a keg of your own- or he can make a batch of wine for you. (He doesn't know this yet, but he'll do it).

2- Baked goods. I'm again selling my husband's craftiness for your dollar. He makes awesome everything- sourdough bread, bagels, pies, I'm pretty sure that he wants to be Martha. I also make decent cookies. Your choice- awesome Aaron stuff, or decent Diana stuff.

3- A room to stay. Ever need a place to crash in Milwaukee? Well, if your dollar built our home, then technically, you're part owner, right? Of course, this also means you deal with 3 crazy girls crying, screaming, dancing, and following you around like shadows- and this also means you must be trustworthy because we have a family to protect... but it would be really good practice for the Brewery/B&B we hope to have one day (watch for that blog in 30 years)

4- Yeah, 4... I like even numbers. If we really get a house funded through this, then every year I will hold a fundraising event to raise money to donate to a non-for-profit that helps put people in their own houses. Sweet, right?! Pay it forward is how we roll.

Well, folks. I am going to keep thinking of how to keep you coming back and sharing this with your friends. Because, I did the math in my head last night, and if most of us have like 300 FB friends, then I only need to find 500 friends to share and get each of their friends to give a buck! That seems so easy. I had to try, I had to...

So- tell me what you'd like to see on this blog to keep you coming back for more. Videos of my crazy kids? Me yelling at my husband? Baking videos from my husband? Individual "Thank you's"? Jokes of the day? House shaped cookies sent to your door? Making all of your dollars into a dollar house before it goes to the bank... except then we might get robbed, scratch that.

If you can give us ONE DOLLAR, you can do it by Wepay on our YouCaring site, or if we know you and trust you, by mail or in person :)

Thank you for your time, thank you for helping me prove my husband wrong--- because that's the goal of all us wives--- and thank you for helping my family find a home <3
